One Wrong Turn, by CM Ewan - Lea

Imagine yourself late at night taking a wrong turn on a remote country lane. Would you stop to help a stranded stranger? Abi and Ben find themselves in that situation. Abi doesn’t want to stop, but seeing a woman with a baby changes her mind. From that moment onwards their lives take a turn… have they made the right or the wrong decision?

After reading the back of the book I was hooked. This promised tension and suspense. Did it deliver? Reading for several hours with only a break to eat my dinner, I finished the book in one go. It had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. My husband commented: “I have never, in all the 40 years of our marriage, known you to finish a book in one day.”

I guess that says it all…. You just want to read on to find out more about Abi and Ben and their lives prior to this moment and why they made that decision to give these strangers a lift. Furthermore you wonder about the lives of the people they pick up: who are they? Why do they behave like that? And with an unexpected twist at the end, yes, the book certainly delivered! And you might want to think twice before giving a lift to strangers on a dark road late at night.

I do feel that the end got very, if not a little too, spectacular though. And it did go on a bit longer than I felt necessary. But with that being the only negative, it was well worth reading. I will certainly pick up other titles by C.M. Ewan. If you like a good thriller, this is definitely a book you should pick up.
